The affordable gym membership model is at the heart of Britain’s largest fitness chain, Pure Gym. With close to 150 gyms and 500,000 members, Pure Gym’s customer experience needs to be second to none. As a long-term supplier of Pure Gym, Mood’s expertise were sought after when a new spin class concept was being devised. With a professional sound design, intelligent lighting and scent systems, all put together to be flexible, reliable and easy to control, Pure Ride was born!

Based in Moorgate, London, Mood created a complex audio design, using some of the best speakers around from Bose and an intuitive Visage lighting LED bar to generate full colour-wash, movement and programmed effects. To complete this unique idea, four different scents and Mood’s most up-to-date, on-trend music channel were selected for key areas to ensure a connection was made on an emotional level and to create a truly unforgettable experience.

When the Asian Fast Food brand wagamama – Japanese for “Naughty Child” – approached us, they needed us to deliver content and install hardware. In-store digital is an important part of Wagamama’s armoury to communicate key marketing messaging to customers. Integral to the project was informing and educating customers on what Wagamama offers, above and beyond the widely known concept.

To begin with, they were looking for an eye-catching visual solution at Gatwick airport, inspiring busy travellers to come in and have a break at the restaurant. Syncing 26 digital screens around a curved column near the entrance allowed the restaurant to display the various menus throughout the day.

The successful co-operation led to the next big project, a large scale LED installation at London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 of 21m x 2m.

The Challenge

Before working with Mood, Great Lakes Ace experienced a number of issues with their business music provider. For starters, their music selection was outdated, rarely updated and very repetitive. Additionally, the music delivery technology was very dated, making it difficult for Ace IT personnel to manage the devices and ensure compatibility with Ace’s evolving backend systems.

Finally, their music provider didn’t offer in-store messaging – a solution that Ace sought to help take their customer experience to the next level. Mood’s vast experience with Ace Hardware franchise groups and hundreds of other franchise-based brands was essential in guiding the approach to the in-store media solution for Great Lakes Ace.

Mood began by assigning a dedicated Account Management team that could work with Ace to create a branded and centrally-managed music and messaging solution.

In order to provide Ace with the cost savings and the music variety they were looking for, Mood implemented Core Music – an industry leading choice for local and regional brands alike. Clients that use Core Music can choose up to 10 professionally-designed programs from a wide variety of genres. All programs are frequently updated to keep the music experience fresh.

With Mood’s accessible online portal, authorized users can easily schedule music programs and manage preferences for as many of their locations as they like. Users can also use this portal to manage their on-hold and in-store messages. Ace’s suite of corporate-approved messages are written and recorded each month to highlight in-store specials and flier promotions, helping Ace drive sales and enhance the friendly feel of their stores.

Finally, both music and messaging are driven by Mood’s reliable and efficient ProFusion iS device. The ProFusion leverages the latest in background music technology, providing secure internet-based content delivery and seamless playback at all times.

The Approach

Leveraging years of experience serving franchise-based organizations, Mood knew exactly what Pandora was looking for: a partner that could implement a brand standard program across each of their locations.

To establish this high level of consistency, the Mood team met with Pandora to gain a deep understanding of their brand personality, key business objectives, target audience and desired in-store experience. Based on the findings, a dedicated Music Designer at Mood collaborated with the Pandora team in the creation of custom music programs that could accurately convey Pandora’s chic and welcoming spirit.

From there, Mood’s visual experts went to work on developing stunning digital signage solutions, as well as interactive tablet stations to further immerse customers in the Pandora brand experience.

The Solution

MUSIC

Pandora’s in-store music includes two custom programs, each professionally-designed on a track-by-track basis. Genres include modern pop and classic vocal jazz, creating a lavish and vibrant sound, and a gentle, yet uplifting energy that is uniquely Pandora Jewelry.

These programs are automatically updated every 60 days via Ethernet, ensuring that the Pandora experience is always up to date with contemporary hits and well-attuned to customer preferences. Additionally, all music is fully licensed and screened for business use, and Mood’s team of global licensing experts is able to secure all necessary international rights for commercial music usage.

DIGITAL SIGNAGE

In order to create a more immersive and engaging customer experience, Mood designed and implemented the following digital signage solutions:

ICON Frame: Driven through commercial-grade 85” and 32” Samsung screens, this stunning digital signage display showcases seasonal and promotional products in breathtaking detail, complemented by dynamic motion graphics and videography. All content is created by Mood’s in-house team of visual designers, and all screens and visual hardware are professionally installed by local Mood technicians.

Craftsmanship Tablet Displays: Customers can interact with the Pandora brand and view a series of videos that showcase the craftsmanship behind Pandora Jewelry. Each tablet display also includes a set of Klipsch over-ear headphones to further enhance the experience.

SOUND SYSTEMS

To complete the experience, Pandora relies on Mood for professional sound system design, equipment and installation. All equipment is from leading manufacturers such as Bose and Lowell, with system design from Mood’s certified A/V experts.

The Results

By working with Mood, Pandora was able to achieve an in-store experience that brilliantly reflects their luxurious and chic brand personality. Additionally, this experience is consistent across all of their locations, since all music and signage content is centrally managed by Pandora corporate personnel, via Mood’s web-based control sites.
